// WHAT IS THE AI VISIBILITY SCORE
A single number that measures your AI search presence
The AI Visibility Score is GeoXylia's proprietary 0-100 rating that measures how visible your content is to AI search engines and chatbot systems. It answers a single question: when an AI system like ChatGPT or Perplexity generates an answer about your industry, does it cite you?
Unlike traditional SEO metrics (Domain Authority, PageRank, keyword rankings), the AI Visibility Score is measured directly from AI platforms. We make real API calls to ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini with queries relevant to your domain, then check whether your content is cited in the generated answers. This is ground-truth data, not a prediction or heuristic.
The score combines actual citation data with a 9-dimension diagnostic that evaluates everything from schema markup and entity consistency to content depth and technical accessibility. Each dimension is independently scored and weighted based on its correlation with citation rates.
// HOW IT IS CALCULATED
Six weighted dimensions that determine your score
Each dimension is scored independently and weighted based on its correlation with actual citation rates.
AI Citation Rate
Real API checks across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini to determine if your site is actually cited in generated answers for domain-relevant queries.
Schema & Structured Data
Presence and correctness of FAQPage, HowTo, Article, and Organization schema markup. Pages with proper schema are cited 40% more frequently.
Entity Consistency
Uniformity of your brand name, logo, description, and identifiers across Wikipedia, Wikidata, Crunchbase, and social profiles.
Content Depth & Recency
Factual density (claims per 100 words), content freshness, and answer-first structure. Recent content is cited at significantly higher rates.
Technical Accessibility
How easily AI systems can crawl and index your content. Includes llms.txt, robots.txt, sitemap quality, and page speed.
Authority Signals
Third-party citations, research mentions, and domain-level authority factors that influence whether AI systems trust your content as a source.
// INDUSTRY BENCHMARKS
Where does your site rank?
Based on GeoXylia's 318-site, 5-vertical benchmark dataset. The median site scores below 50 out of 100, meaning most sites have significant headroom to improve their AI visibility.
Strong
Your site is a regular citation source across multiple AI engines. Maintain with fresh content and ongoing schema updates.
Moderate
Inconsistent citation with room for improvement. Focus on schema, entity consistency, and content depth to move up.
Low
AI rarely cites your content. Start with technical accessibility, then build entity signals and authoritative content.
// HOW TO IMPROVE
Seven proven strategies to boost your score
- Add FAQPage schema markup to your high-traffic pages. Pages with FAQ schema receive roughly 40% higher citation weighting from ChatGPT.
- Structure content with answer-first format. Content that answers a question in the first 2-4 sentences is 72.4% more likely to be cited by ChatGPT.
- Maintain entity consistency across Wikipedia, Wikidata, Crunchbase, and social profiles. Inconsistent entity data confuses AI retrieval systems.
- Publish content with high factual density. Aim for at least 3 statistics, data points, or named entities per 100 words of content.
- Keep content fresh. Perplexity cites content published in the last 30 days at an 82% rate. Stale content gets passed over.
- Implement and maintain an llms.txt file. This is one of the simplest ways to tell AI systems what content to prioritize.
- Build third-party citations from authoritative sources. Research papers, industry reports, and government data citations lift citation rates by 37%.
